Uninsured?
You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your health care will cost
If you do not have insurance (uninsured) or are enrolled in a health plan, but choosing to engage in services and pay out-of-pocket without filing a claim (self-pay and out-of-network), you have the right under the No Surprise Act (NSA) to an estimate of your bill for health care items and services before those items or services are provided.
- If you are uninsured you have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate (GFE) that shows the costs of medical items and services that are reasonably expected for your health care needs. The estimate is based on information known at the time the estimate was created and can be obtained by calling (423) 467-3649 or visiting our office.
- The Good Faith Estimate does not include any unknown or unexpected costs that may arise during treatment. You could be charged more if complications or special circumstances occur. If this happens, federal law allows you to dispute (appeal) the bill if it is at least $400 more than your GFE. Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.
- If you are uninsured and have received a Good Faith Estimate, you may contact Frontier Health to let us know the billed charges are higher than the Good Faith Estimate you received. You can request to update the bill to match the Good Faith Estimate, ask to negotiate the bill, or ask if there is a payment plan or financial assistance available.
